Basile Pajot

About me

Hi, I am Basile Pajot, a second-year PhD student at the Station Biologique de Roscoff in the DiSEEM team. In 2024, I obtained a double degree in agricultural engineering from the Institut Agro Montpellier and a master's degree in Biodiversity, Ecology and Evolution from the University of Montpellier (master DARWIN). In 2024, I did my master's thesis in the DiSEEM team working on speciation genomics and local adpatation. I am currently a second-year PhD student in the same team, working on speciation genomics and the evolution of sexual isolation on the complex of marine isopods Jaera albifrons.

The questions that interest me are the following:

  • How do barriers to reproduction appear and become associatied to form reproductively isolated species?
  • How does reproductive isolation evolve between closely-related species?
  • How do phenotypic traits involved in barriers to reproduction evolve?
  • What role do structural variants play in the speciation process?
  • How is the speciation process translated at the genomic level?

Resume

Second-year PhD student working on the evolution of sexual isolation in the complex of marine isopods Jaera albifrons. I am particularly interested in genomic data analysis, methodological developments and bioinformatic protocol automation to look more in detail into the speciation processes, the genomic bases of barriers to reproduction and the evolution of these barriers. I am looking to continue in research with a post-doc on the evolution of barriers to reproduction on marine organisms.
